A Tale Of A Girl And Her Hair

I'm in love with my new hair color! I have to admit, I was a bit skeptical at first, it wasn't love at first site. but it had been awhile since I last saw my hairstylist, and was a bit low on funds,so when I saw this color on sale at my local store, I thought..."why not?"

I am normally used to spending upwards of 50.00 or more on a cut and color, and usually shy away from bargain brands. Having never used ColorSilk before, I was worried that it might damage my hair or worse yet, look too dark.

The instructions were pretty much the same as my normal at home brand, but I noticed that when I rinsed my hair, there was alot less color coming out, which means my hair absorbed more of the color, after conditioning,I took the towel off to reveal a rich red,my hair was soft, silky, and felt healthy, and shined like crazy!

I will definitely go back to this brand again,I'm totally in love with my hair. If you color your hair at home, you will appreciate the small price tag, but huge results. I'm very happy that for under $5, I have rich gorgeous color..but don't tell my stylist that!

Until next time~

Take a bite, my dear!

Fall inspires a bit of mystery, and dare we say brings out a bit of the vamp in us?

Mac Cosmetics introduces it's wickedly wonderful "Venomous Villains."

A potion to poison, an apple to bite, a spell to cast…bad never looked so good. A crystal ball of color created from your favorite Disney Venomous Villains, inspired by the three most infamously frosty, fabulous and formidable of Disney’s Dark Ladies…and one dastardly Dr. Facilier. Tempting, isn't it? This is A M∙A∙C and Disney collaboration to celebrate the dark side in every one of us, in a glamorous sort of way. Hot shades of Magenta, Red, and Pink, to put you in the spotlight. This is no "Hello Kitty", but "Hello Hottie."

Who’s the fairest one of all? Four separate mini-collections, in haute animated couture. The incomparable Cruella de Vil and Snow White’s Evil Queen, each featured on one ultra primary displayer Sleeping Beauty’s Maleficent and The Princess and the Frog’s Dr. Facilier are both up to no good on their own. Uniquely designed iconic packaging you will kill for, cunning characters and bedeviled beauties that are so alluring, you can’t help but wonder "what would it be like to be one?"

Embrace your darker side; steal one of these before they're gone! M•A•C Venomous Villains on counter starting September 30, 2010 through October 2010.View the product trailer at http://www.maccosmetics.com/vv_landing/index.tmpl

Spring 2011 Forecast

"The Haute List"

Fashion Week is over, but the talk of the town is still the hot looks and cool makeup trends that will be spotted on the streets next year for Spring 2011.

Here is a list of my predictions of what will be the most copied ,and most envied looks.

#1 The Half Moon Nail Look (Butter, London) Created by Nonie Crème. Yummy Mummy , short press-on nails, &  Jack Black above the bottom cuticle. Nail art looks to be a huge trend for Spring. I love the return to glamour!

#2 The "Girl-Girl" look by Band of Outsiders (Shiseido Cosmetics) Created by Dick Page
Shimmering Rouge Lipstick in Golden Dragon. The perfect uptown girl look.

#3 Rock star Chic. The Orange Eye (Derek Lam) & Bold Eye Shadow Colors (Victoria Beckham) I think this look will be copied this spring, maybe by Sephora. Famous for bold color. Estee Lauder's Tom Pecheux created look for Derek Lam. I found a link that shows how he did it at the Estee Lauder website.http://www.esteelauder.com/purecolor/index.tmpl?secparam=tompecheux&cm_mmc=email-_-September-_-09_14_TomPecheux_EANB-_-tompecheux

#4 I have always loved Guerlain, and I think their shades are always trending. Their Spring 2010 collection is beautiful, elegant, and gives a fresh look for spring. The eye shadow palettes and blush éclat along with the re-introduction of "The Meteorites" will be huge this Spring/Summer.

#5 Coral Lips (Vena Cava) By Christian McCulloch for Mac Cosmetics. Trend from last year, but I am seeing more daring shades. I think this will carry over to Spring.  The lip color is a bright, peachy matte. Get the look with "Good to go" Pro Longwear Lipcreme by MAC.

#6 Sleek hair, pony tails and braids. (Christian Siriano Beauty Spring 2010)Hair, by Aveda. Aveda Air Control TM Hair Spray, Aveda Pure Abundance TM Hair Potion, Aveda Light Elements TM Texturizing Creme.  I use Aveda products on my hair and always love the feel, and the way it keeps my hair healthy. LAMB was also showing braids at the last night of Fashion Week. Also try Bumble & Bumble Thickening Spray. Another great look is the slightly "messy" hairstyle (Narcisco Rodriquez). I recommend using a volumizing spray or gel to  gently lift hair at the roots. One to try? Tigi Catwalk Your Highness Thickening Gel Cream and Root Boost Spray.

#7 The Fresh All American Look (Tommy Hilfiger Spring Summer 2010 Beauty) Lisa Butler. Mac Cosmetics, Crushed Metal Collection. I believe this look will carry over as well. Loving the look of Lorick. Gently beachcomed hair, a hint of bronze on cheeks. Try Lorick blush in Peony to capture the look.

Let your inner "Diva" shine through! Go Glam, Try a sunny Barbie bronzed look,or go Rocker Girl with slightly disheveled hair and neon eyes or nails.

Bargain Vs Brand

A friend of mine posted a thirty day challenge on her blog recently, to prove that most of the high end cosmetic brands out there have a cheaper, same pigmented duplicate out there.
She adores picking up products here and there and loves to play with different makeup brands..I adore eyeshadow, and just as a test, decided to play along a bit.

Now, I'm not saying that the other non high end makeup brands are not just as good, but I will say that for longevity, and quality that Nars,Sephora,Stila and Urban Decay are far superior. I am all for a cheaper price tag, but if the shadow makes your eyes itch or wears off halfway through the day, is it worth saving money?

I'm the kind of girl that likes to put my makeup on in the morning, then just forget about it during the day, often adding a deeper shade in the crease or colorful liner for evening wear. If it doesn't last, the color is too sheer, there's alot of fallout with the shades, then I have to go with the name brand.

Cover Girl,Maybelline, and L'oreal pretty much give the same results, they look great in the package, but the colors go on very light ,and often do not blend well,at least not with a makeup brush, the trios often go on looking harsh if you add too much color, half of what I purchased wound up in the trash bin in my bathroom because I just couldn't stand the look. the one exception to the rule was Color Plush Eyeshadow from Maybelline. I used the "Give Me Gold" and really liked the results.

To be fair, though, I do use some supermarket/drugstore brands..an eyebrow pencil from Cover Girl as they are they only ones that make a decent shade of red for my brows.and I love colossal mascara from Maybelline, makes my lashes look lush,no flaking, and no clumpy feeling. I didn't have to use a comb on my lashes afterwards. Best liquid eye liner? L'oreal. This one isn't as wet, applies like a marker,so I do agree with my beauty guru pal on that note.

For a less expensive brand name, I opt for Sephora brand makeup. Their line is affordable, the quality is great, and your eyeshadows do not wind up breaking in the case, which I found that some of the drug store brands did alot.Their eyeliners are amazing,I love their lip glosses, and the tiny little price. I have never had a bad experience at their store.

All in all, I think it's just a matter of taste, whatever look you are going for. There are duplicate shades out there, but depending on the quality,it's up to you to decide if they are honestly worth it in the end.

Until next time~

Fall 2010 Fashion Trends..Runway To Real Life ..Making it all make sense for you!

Fierce is the word for Fall 2010! Get ready to prowl with flowing, loose hair, slightly messy, but with an elegant edge that can go from day to nightclub, without much of a thought. Volume is the key to a lion-like mane, and even short hair can have a sexy, playful, kittenish look with a bit of root lifter or a good volumizing spray. Hair should have movement. How to get the best look? Wash and dry your hair the night before the big event. Usually, the more natural oils and products in the hair the better, as they will add to the overall sheen and volume to your style. Then go pounce!

Nails come into focus with deep shades of purple, burgundy, and taupe. Chanel has a beautiful new line of colors that you may want to try in their Le Vernis Trio, which was just released this month. Khaki Vert (a soft earthy green), Khaki Brun (a soft caramel like brown), and Khaki Rose, a very pretty, almost blue/pink shade. They have also re-introduced an all time favorite, (and mine) Vamp. This is the color that started it all. That deep almost black purple that was the "It" shade a few years ago, and honestly never went out of style. Another hot nail look is bright neon colors, think orange, yellow, and candy pink.

Fabulous Fashionistas everywhere should give these shades a try, one of them will surely make you purr with delight. Speaking of purring, there is a new line from Mac that has been released called Fabulous Felines. What could be more “purrfect!" Leopard Luxe shades, giving a nod to the smoky eye again, but this time, think rich shades of gold and deep browns. Add a soft matte lip for a just kissed look.
Bringing eyes into focus is key, and to get the fire started there is a great new line of lashes that Urban Decay has launched. For a little runway to real life glam, try lashes applied at the edges of your eye in bright shades of blue, teal or purple, to give an unexpected pop of color just for fun.
There's no right or wrong, experiment with your inner wild child this season. Add a great leopard print bag or scarf, a wide gold cuff bracelet.

Fall Fashion Finds For The Working Girl

Time to update the wardrobe with a few new pieces? Look no further than DressBarn. Try these awesome finds that will give your wardrobe a little pick me up without leaving your wallet empty.

I was really impressed with the styles at my local store. The jackets and sweaters are all under 50.00 and can pull together a great work look in minutes..

Plaid cardigan jacket,44.99 team with a pencil skirt or pants and you have a great day to night look.

I found this wonderful turquoise suede jacket for 44.99 also, team with a soft gray skirt,or pants, even jeans and boots for a classic style. The skirt is also a soft suede, and would look great with boots and topped with a long black sweater.

Another "Go with everything" option is the shaping pant for 29.99 pair with a wonderful cowl neck or belted sweater 33.99 These come pretty much in all the basic colors, gray, black, charcoal. I found that most of their dress slacks run true to size and are long enough for tall people as well.

Old Navy.."Just Old?"

I recently walked into my local Old Navy store to browse some of their fall fashions.. I admit, I was bored and was just killing time before a movie. I was curious to see what some fresh new styles were, but oh my, I was so wrong about the "fresh" part!

Now retro is one thing, but this was just plain "old". I'm seeing 70's everywhere! From shaggy vests to cords,to wool ponchos,to pea coats..now, I don't want to age myself too much, but I had a red wool pea coat in high school...even peasant blouses, the old fashioned kind with elastic around the neck and sleeves are back.

It left me wondering when I was going to see a Charlies Angels poster on the wall.. Love Peace, and Frosted White Lip gloss!

I left the store with a smile on my face, because I was fashion when fashion wasn't cool.

They say if you wait long enough, everything comes back in style.. Umm no thanks! A retro look usually has some sort of update made to it to at least make it look a bit modern, perhaps a longer sleeve or slight flair to a coat, but these look like someone stole from the Goodwill bin (sorry) . Bottle Green went out a long time ago, along with brown corduroy.

I think this ship is sinking fast!

Until next time~
